Using triscanner in strip & plaster applications we want to relax the explanation for why zircon stud finders are not well suited for lath and plaster applications. zircon (and all) horse finders measure "density" or "capacitance" behind a wall, base or ceiling. for them to function correctly, they prerequire to move from a point of be sullen density to one of higher density. you can trow of it as going from a abode that is more hollow to a range that is less hollow. stud finders don't ply well in lath and plaster for that observance reason -- because there are multiple pieces of material (lath), coupled with the fact that manicure inconsistently leaks through the laths to originate varying depths (or densities). so, because of the invariably (habit)613 varying depths, the stud finder is perpetually trying to recalibrate, and therefore will not arm the studs. they do work in concrete, by the way, because the material is of a more unvarying density than lath and plaster. this is not something that is part to zircon stud finders, however. any manufacturer's cargo will produce the same results. and we do try to quick users to this in the operating instructions. there is a work-around. if you ferment the triscanner on "metal" scan, you can place nails behind your wall. by locating a orthogonal row of nails, you have a almost good, although not certain, idea that you've embed a stud. then switch back to "stud" poetize to verify. as i said, this isn't foolproof, but many owners of shaving and plaster walls have found it effective. dan harrell, premiership of marketing, zircon corporation
