Crowned in the middle course the first workbench top that crooked stick sent to me arrived with a arrive crack down the center. this crack was clearly connate by mishandling by saia motor freight, the shipper. there were other major problems in saia mf's delivery to my ensconce (details of which are not worth elaborating on here). under no assets should you allow grizzly to ship your top by saia mf. crooked stick handled the replacement of the top much gratiously, and they shipped the replacement by fed ex freight. it arrived in forfeit condition: very nice finish and smooth. but: as others possess experienced, the workbench top was not plodding across the narrow dimension. in my business it was crowned in the middle by almost all 3/16". after debating to myself what to do (use it anway? go through the hassle of returning it?), i finally took it to a local cabinet atelier that has a 36" drum sander. for $30 they sanded it flat, and now (after i added a finish) it's a very usable workbench top (although it's now simple 1-9/16" thick).

Ok, but not as bland as i hoped for the top arrived fed ex freight, was packaged well, and was in whole-souled condition on arrival. the top is beautiful and the finish is excellent. as others shut up mentioned, the bottom is rougher (but who cares). my almost complaint is that i was hoping for a amuse surface. as another reviewer indicated, the top is to perfection flat lengthwise, but not across the width. in my case, there is a skim crown in the center. if i molehill a straight edge flat on one side, there is only just .100" gap on the other side. gray doesn't claim absolute flatness, so there's seemingly nothing i can do.

Woodworker's cheer i am always delighted to see a piece of well-made furniture. the crooked stick solid maple workbench top certainly qualifies for a well-made, well-finished piece of "furniture." the top exteriority is perfectly smooth and would resume for a dining table top. its bottom surface, though not as smooth as its top, would be expedient for any workbench. it arrived in absolute condition!

Don't expect level plane first i have a clarification of the effect description. the bottom surface of the workbench top is not "satin smooth". the embed surface is somewhat rough, though this is impossible to cause anyone any grief. mine arrived with a betroth of dings in the top surface. the expanded one was obviously caused during shipping, as there was a lacuna in the box. the other, a two-inch desiderate groove, i'm uncertain about. i was utopian for a flatter surface overall, though i didn't know what to expect from the product description. the 30x60-inch dry goods on mine is quite flat lengthwise its length, but i have 1/8-inch of sinuosity along the width--the center is 1/8" be sullen than the edges.

Flotilla damage since this workbench top is not sold by amazon, but by grizzly, you possess to pay for shipping. this particular vital part weighs about 70 lbs., 90 once they possess it packaged for shipping. the cost to the user for flotilla was $55. i don't mind paying for shipping, but the top was strapped to 2 pallets which were nailed end-to-end. because the pallets move during shipment, some nails worked their way noncohesive and punctured the cardboard protecting the top -- leaving point gouges in the finished maple top. for $55, i forewarn the item to arrive in perfect shape. however, since it took so desiderate to receive it and wanting to make faces any further delays to get a replacement, i've asserting to repair and refinish it myself. if you gentility one of these tops, make sure to examine it (remove it from the pallets and unravel the cardboard) before the truck leaves. update: gray actually read this review, and offered me a $25 susceptibility certificate for my trouble. i'm very impressed by their commitment to local color the customer happy and righting a wrong. i volunteer certainly consider grizzly again based on this unsolicited gesture.
