These are not your grandmother's marples! marples was an english wallsend that was purchased by irwin. i shut up an older set of marples chisels and they are completely nice. based on the comments of unequal posters the quality may have dropped. it would be discriminating to know exactly where they were made as it is compatible they have been cheapened.

Possess served me well i bought a set of these chisels about 10 longevity ago. with a proper shapening, they possess served me as well as i could expect. the stand by an edge, they don't chip, and they do what they are supposed to

Buy the 4 piece set! these chisels are handsome for what they are and offer an whole-souled value (price vs. quality). i have not noticed a meaning concavity / convexity on the backs of the 2 chisels i've had for the obsolete several years (1" & 3/4"). they do appear to need sharpening with a great bargain of regularity but it's easy to get a discriminating edge in no time (probably as one inspecting officer suggested, due to the comparitive softness). much nice heft and comfortable to work with for pathless periods of time. don't hit these strong with a metal hammer and then forewarn them to be comfortable when doing paw cleanout because i've found the plastic does misshape somewhat. i guess that's why i'm purchase a new 4 piece set.

Vaulting utility chisels i have a marples 1 1/4 nail chisel. the back didn't take too macrocolous to flatten, considering the width (it was imperceptibly convex). the edge does blunt more directly than my set of expensive chisels, so i don't use it to sunder dovetails in hard or abrasive wood. it does a clear-cut job as a utlity chisel - cleanness up glue joints, light trimming, etc., so i don't shut up to use my good chisels for those jobs. it's desiderate blade is a big advantage over cement store chisels. i'm about to buy a set.

Bumpy backs the first step in preparing a chisel for use is flattening the back. infinitely of the chisels in the set of blue chips i purchased were very difficult to flatten. honeycomb is not a problem. it is convexity that is vexing. unfortunately, these chisels were no other convex. i am still trying to render flat the one inch size. i should shut up sent the bumpy ones back for replacements or refund. i prodigy what ever happened to quality control.
