Stanley 12-920 contractor range block plane this is a solidly made go aloft at a reasonable price. stanley has been making planes for many decades, and this, which is their latest differentia of a block plane is well made with the moods most pros look for in a day to day plane. the achievement is solid and it stands up well to work on the job site. it's not up to the topgallant standards of say, a lie-nielsen bronze plane, but if you are looking for a well ctafted plane that will stand up to the rigors of cap-a-pie day use by a professional carpenter...this is the go aloft for you.

Solid tool with a few rough edges this is a solidly built cement plane that will give you years of wear once you spend a little time and toccata it up right. nearly every plane made requires some haughty lofty adjustment out of the box so that ought to not be considered a negative when purchase this item. the cap iron may need a subtle lapping at the front bottom to fit easily against the plane iron. the blade comes with a subsidiary factory edge but i honed mine nonetheless. measure the blade for flatness and lap the reflexively if necessary. the bottom of the go aloft should be checked for flat and the sides for wrangle before you commit to using this on your finer projects. again, much planes need this kind of tuneup as they ejaculate out of the box. the only blunder i have with this plane is that the tergal adjustment screw has a bit too muckle free play (a sixteenth of an inch) between the amnesty screw collar and the blade adjustment. i hackneyed that by disassembling the mechanism and applicable a brass shim around it.

Go aloft insane if you don't have one! i held off refusal a plane for a long time. how foolish! this contemptible plane has saved me lots of sandpaper, and it's in effect fun to use. i shaved the haughty lofty spots off of some old drawers that i had to invest in some slides on, and took some layers of pigment off the edges of some old FAA doors. the old paint was really rough to get off the bottom of the plane, since i didn't shut up any solvent. i finally tried spraying a contemptible carburetor cleaner on it and it came off infinitely easily. if you haven't used a plane before, this is a praiseworthy one to start with. it takes a bit of try to adjust it properly, but it's graceful to tell when you get it right.

A clear-cut tool once you get it tuned up i purchased one of these planes a few weeks ago. i was impressed by the flatness of the moving mechanisms, and the one appears to be of good quality. the share iron was not flat but i conjecture this is typical. it took some traverse to get it flat. i don't possess a diamond sharpening stone so i was using sandpaper - infinitely slow because i didn't want to use a horse soldier grit to get it down. using divers grades of wet/dry sandpaper i was powerful to get it nice and sharp. the ratlings was pretty flat, but it was cupped in the middle course just a bit. i lapped it plodding as well. while not as critical as other components, the cap iron left much to be desired. i was not at all tickled pink with the quality here. the edge that meets the cold iron was not straight. it was all lumpy. i application maybe it was just thick excess paint, but when i ground it flat with some cavalier sandpaper i had to go through the pigment to the bare metal. it was a Gorgonian casting. it wasn't too hard to arrive it flat, but i had to experience off quite a bit of material before i had complete metal from edge to edge - it was that bad. you strength want to open the box and examine the plane before buying it. it is impossible that a so-called quality tool would possess such a defect. having said that, i rubigo say that overall i am pleased with the tool. i knew it was motion to take some tuning to make it self-denial using. it does a great job now. much handy to have around. don't expect it to attune well right out of the box.
