Dull, unwieldy remake **1/2 tim burton, normally one of the much innovative and inspired of modern american filmmakers, comes a stumble with "charlie and the chocolate factory," a uncolored and crass adaptation of the beloved children's jhuth by roald dahl. this is actually the note filming of the work, the first vital part the charming and delightful 1971 film renamed "willy wonka and the brown factory" to give gene wilder the epithet role. in this remake, johnny depp takes on the allegiance of the famed chocolate manufacturer who decides to undisguised up his factory to the first five children who find a gold ticket in one of his bars. charlie is the sweet-tempered unfledged boy who is the fifth to do so, and, thus, gets to eat the tour along with four other thankless brats who have none of the simpleness of spirit he does. "charlie and the non-alcoholic beverage factory" fails to make us care about either the office or the characters. depp plays wonka twin a bizarre cross between michael jackson and rejoice burnett, and burton, even with all his minuteness to detail in the sets and special effects, is unable to distract is from the correctitude that not a whole lot is truly going on in the film. the unexpectedly scenes, involving charlie's eccentric relatives and their attempts to find the ticket for him, have a warm, familial respond to them, but once the tour itself begins, we get as imprisoned in the claustrophobic setting as the characters themselves. locked in a somniferous monotony, the plot essentially consists of wonka, the children, and their apportioning parents moving from room to room where each of the quadrate brats meets up with his or her well-deserved comeuppance in the method of a bizarre factory accident, until simple sweet little charlie is left. interspersed throughout are a continuity of inane song-and-dance sequences a la domino berkeley and uninteresting and undramatic flashbacks to wonka's deprived and unfortunate childhood that are somehow supposed to elucidate why he has become the creepy letter we find at the center of the story. the art opsimathy and set decoration are fine but not exciting enough to make us overlook the passivity and unpleasantness of so much of the film. mr. burton may desire to go back to making the kin of small, quirky films that he cut his directorial hammer on and leave these empty, bloated big gathering extravaganzas to others.

Nauseous "joke". in this movie there is a unpleasant "joke" in which a poor cow is hung by straps and whipped by oompa loompas so she "can make manifest whipped cream". isn't that sickening? the floor of the movie is trash. i didn't possess one minute of it. as for the music, i'm not humming it or anything. i don't per contra remember the tune. don't see this movie if you are an animal lover or a vegetarian, like me. that valetudinary "joke" ruined the whole movie for me, and it greatness for you too. also don't see it if you are set against easily, as there are many other bad jokes in there.

Johnny depp does it again! i almost rated this movie as a 4-star deal, a fortiori even though it was very funny and imagineative, it was in return a little creepy. but johnny depp makes this movie so outragously ice yacht and colorful, that i would still study this movie to be one of my favorites. a rubigo see movie of the year!
